Garden Suburb Junior School

Caterpillars

Each class has had the opportunity to watch some caterpillars grow and transform into butterflies.

Each class was given up to six caterpillars and was able to document them growing before they finally turned into chrysalides. Once in this state, they were placed in their butterfly house where the children eagerly awaited the emergence of the butterflies.

Due to a long bank holiday weekend, apples were left in the butterfly houses to provide sustenance in case they hatched. Luckily, when the children returned, all the butterflies had survived and were happily munching away on the apples! Classes then took their butterflies to the field and garden to release them.
