Becoming a Governor
Governors do not run or manage schools. The Head teachers have the professional and overall responsibility for the management of the schools and for the delivery of high standard education.
The Governing Body (GB) has a strategic role; it is responsible for ensuring the schools operate effectively. We support the Head teachers in providing a broad curriculum and consistently good to outstanding quality of teaching in a caring and safe environment.
Becoming a governor provides you with the chance of making a difference to how well the schools perform. Your efforts contribute to raise standards, serve the local community and help realise your own potential by learning new skills.
We welcome parents and members of the community interested in supporting our schools.
We are committed to encourage applicants who are representative of our diverse community.
We look for governors who will support our ethos & values.
A background in education is not required to become a governor.
You need time, commitment, enthusiasm and flexibility to contribute actively to committee work & GB meetings. You will also need to dedicate some time to reading documents and papers necessary to the running of GB and committee meetings.
We encourage all governors to attend regular training provided by the Local Authority (LA).
The LA provides a wide range of training for governors to complement the diverse experience and skills you will be bringing to the GB.
We hold two GB meetings per term and committees have one meeting per term. GB meetings are usually held on Thursday evenings. Committee meetings are held on days and at a time that best suit most governors, often early mornings.
We have 6 committees covering all the areas of schools’ work:
- Environment, Resources and Audit
- Curriculum and Educational Recovery
- Pupil Experience and Wellbeing
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Staffing
- Communication and Engagement
Governors are expected to attend the majority of GB and to sit on two committees.
The term of office is four years, although a governor may resign at any time.
You can find more information about the schools’ Ethos & Values, What We Do and Who We Are on this section of the website.
If you are interested in joining our Governing body, please contact the Junior or Infant school office or the Head Teacher(s) and we will get back to you.
