Juniors win 1st place in Sportshall Athletics!
A squad of 20 boys and girls took part in a range of different athletic events: long-jump, triple-jump, four-lap relay, obstacle relay and many more to secure first place in the annual Sportshall Athletics competition.
24 schools entered the initial heats, which took place two weeks ago. These were then narrowed down to the six best performing schools.
Victory was by no means certain. During the qualifying round, the team came second to Dollis school, who they would they would have to beat in the final. Garden Suburb performed well however, recording numerous first places and improving on their performance in the previous round. With the children showing a tremendous competitive spirit and a high-level of determination, they were in with a real chance. In the end, the results were tight but the school held out to beat Dollis to first place.
Congratulations to all the children that took part. Excitingly, they will now represent Barnet in the London Youth Games. The first round will take place in Harrow, in late February.
